Tournament Structure for the US Open
The US Open golf tournament is a stroke play event that has taken place over 72 holes ever since 1898. It involves four days for play in all, with players shooting 18 holes per round. The aim of a stroke play event is that players aim to shoot as far under par as possible to build an accumulative score over the entire four days of the tournament.
Most of the time, by the end of play on Sunday (the tourney’s fourth day), one player will likely have gone clear of the rest of the field and posted the best score – this will put them top of the leaderboard. If they finish the tournament in this position, then they are crowned the champion. If players are tied after the four rounds have been completed, then a full 18-hole round between the tied players is enforced the next day in order🉐 to establish a tournamen🧸t winner.
Along with the US Masters, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship, the US Open is one of the majors in golf. Play begins on a Thursday and ends on the third Sunday in June each year. The event is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and carries a prize pool of £12.5 million – the highest of all the majors. The US Open has no fixed venue, changing courses each season.

Popular US Open Betting Markets
Golf betting is highly popular at any online bookmaker. There are many reasons for this, but we 🎉think the main one is the sheer variety and wealth of bets available, far outweighing other games.
Outright Winner
This is a simple wager – all that is required from you is to place a bet on which player will win the US Open.
Best US Open betting site for Outright Winner: Paddy Power
Each-Way
If, for absolutely any reason whatsoever, you are harbouring doubts about your selection’s potential performance, then you can always reassure your bet by making it each-way. Like this, your pick for the outright winner can come within the designated places for the tournament. What’s more, many golf betting sites offer promotions on the amount of p🦹laces they will pay out on in golf majors such as the US Open.

Three-Ball Betting
This bet works by selecting a player out of a twosome to post the best score in that day’s round. It does not matter how well the♑ players perform in the wider tournament, so lonওg as, out of the three in their grouping, your pick fares better.

Winning Nationality
With a bet like this, what is required from your end is to predict the nationality of the eventual tournament winner. It is worth taking into consideration the overwhelming amount of times this event has been💖 won by US nationals, but t൲hat’s not to say that players from other countries haven't triumphed in the past.

Hole in One
For any given major, let alone the US Open, there is always a raft of birdie opportunities, but on the par-3s, players can get a hole-in-one which always sparks huge scenes of celebrations on the course. This market usually offers 🀅longer odds, ♒but it is intriguing nonetheless.

History of the US Open
The first ever US Open was played in one day on a nine-hole course on October 4, 1895 over 36 holes at the Newport Golf and Country Club in Newport, Rhode Island. There were 11 entrants, 10 of which were professional as well as one amateur. The winner was a 21-year-old Englishman, Horace Rawlins, who took home $150. In fact, in the early years, the British did exceptionally well at the tournament, enjoying years of dominance that lasted until 1911. This was when John J. McDermott became the first American winner at age 19, who to this day remains the younges꧒t winner in the Open’s history.
In 1925, Scotsman Willie MacFarlane was crowned the champion, after which the Americans dominated for years until South African legend Gary Player won the event in 1965. From 1994 onwards, international challengers began to perform better with increasing regularity. In fact, on four consecutive renewals, between 2004 and 2007, non-Americans would reign supreme. In 1898, the competition was lengthened to the more familiar 72 holes of stroke play. Regional qualifying tournaments were introduced in 1924 to manage the ꧟nu💙mber of players competing.
Matt Fitzpatrick took the spoils last year as he defeated Will Zalatoris by a single stroke. His superb display was underlined by a miraculous bunker shot which he landed on the green, and it was at the same venue whereಞ he won the US Amateur Championship in 2013.

ThePuntersPage Final Say
With 156 players and the joint biggest prize pool in golf, the US Open is one of the biggest and best events in the sport. The tournament’s open structure might well make for a large field and amateur involvement; more often than not, though, winners have been drawn from the elite pool. However, this is a tourney known for shock results – such as when amateur qualifier Lucas Glover won in 2009 – which makes it great for golf betting in general.
